In Gloom: Digital Edition, players strategically place a series of morbidly humorous negative Modifier Cards on their family members to accumulate negative Self-Worth points. From calamities like "Being mauled by manatees," "Swindled by salesmen," to "Menaced by mice," these misfortunes work in your favor. Conversely, positive Modifier Cards are played on the rival families to bestow positive Self-Worth points upon them. Fortunes such as being "Delighted by ducklings," "Found fame at a feast," or Blessed by the bishop are detrimental to their success.

Moreover, the game offers the ability to utilize Event Cards to interrupt turns, resurrect deceased characters, and other strategic maneuvers. Lastly, when content with your family member's accumulation of negative points, unleash an Untimely Death card to send them to their demise. Upon the complete annihilation of an entire family, points are tallied, and the family with the most negative points emerges victorious - if you can even call it "winning."
